When to go to Maine
Peak temperatures in July, average about 21.1°C throughout the state. In the Southern Interior Division during a very warm summer, temperatures may reach 32.2° for as many as 25 days, and in the Coastal Division, two to seven days. Winters are cold, but prolonged cold spells are rare with eight weeks each year dropping below freezing.
The best times to visit Maine really depend on your reasons for travel but in summer and autumn, temperatures remain ideal for all outdoor activities, particularly hiking, fishing and golf. Canoeing and kayaking in particular have a lot of possibilities with excellent rivers including; The Allagash Wilderness Waterway, St. John’s River, The Penobscot, Kennebec and Dead Rivers.
