Flights to Seattle take around 10 hours – direct and indirect flights are available. A taxi to the city centre from the airport takes around 25 minutes and will cost in the region of $40-50, as well as tip.

Visa Requirements

UK citizens can enter the USA via the Visa Waiver Programme which enables visitors to travel to the USA without a visa providing they hold a valid Electronic System Travel Authorisation or ETSA. This can be applied for online and will be valid for two years or until your visa expires, whichever is sooner.

Language

As with many other cities in the USA, Seattle is primarily English speaking but is multicultural and ethnically diverse so many other languages are spoken here.

Transportation

By bus: The bus system here is extensive and reasonably priced, so it’s a great way of getting around if you’re planning a hectic day of sightseeing. There’s even an eco-friendly option if you’re feeling environmentally friendly! Be aware that there aren’t many routes operating after 1.30am until the early morning buses resume, so you may need to make alternative arrangements for getting back to your hotel if you’re planning on staying out.

By taxi: Taxis are a convenient way of travelling in Seattle and there are several companies to choose from. The rates begin at $2.50 and then increase by £2 for every additional mile, though it depends on the taxi firm and the amount of passengers (some companies charge more for extra passengers or baggage).

By car: The streets of Seattle are quite calm and hospitable, aside from rush hour, so hiring a car can be a great option if you’d rather have the freedom of your own wheels for the duration of your stay. Speak to your travel expert when booking for more information.

Currency

The currency is the US Dollar – credit cards are widely accepted and you’ll be able to find ATMs easily throughout the city.

Vaccinations and Health

While there are currently no vaccinations required when travelling to Seattle, health requirements change regularly so you should check with your GP or travel clinic prior to your holiday.
