Tour Information

Tour the best of the American and Canadian west, starting in New York City and touring the region’s most exciting cities and interesting landmarks. See the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, the sights of Washington DC, a working Amish farmstead and ride the Maid of the Mist at Niagara Falls, crossing the border into Canada. Discover Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and historic Quebec City before heading back into the States to travel through the heart of New England to Boston.
The Autumn Leaves - From departures between September 4 and October 9 you will have the opportunity to see the unforgettable autumn colours of New England and eastern Canada.

Day 1

Arrive New York City
Arrive in the Big Apple and transfer to your downtown hotel. Meet your Tour Director and then your fellow travellers at an evening Welcome Reception.

Day 2

New York - Philadelphia - Washington DC
Start the day on a New York orientation tour, visiting sights like Times Square, Battery Park, the Empire State Building and Central Park. You’ll then head out of the city to drive southwards to Philadelphia where you’ll take in the Liberty Bell, the National Constitution Center and Independence Hall, site of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Continue to the nation’s capital, Washington DC and spend the evening at a local restaurant.

Day 3

Washington DC
Take a guided sightseeing tour of the city, viewing the White House, Capitol Hill, the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, the World War Two and Vietnam War Memorials and Arlington National Cemetery where you will take a narrated Tourmobile. Spend the afternoon exploring the city’s sights and museums independently.

Day 4

Washington DC - Lancaster County/Amish Country
From Washington you’ll travel into Lancaster County and the homelands of the Mennonites and Amish people, where farming and traditional life continues as it has done for hundreds of years. Visit an Amish farm to learn more about their way of life and enjoy an Amish dinner this evening.

Lancaster County - Niagara Falls
Today you’ll experience one of the world’s greatest natural wonders - Niagara Falls. Your hotel overlooks both the American and Horseshoe Falls.

Niagara Falls - Toronto
Step onboard the Maid of the Mist to take you up close to the thundering falls, later driving across the Niagara Peninsula, stopping at Niagara-on-the-Lake en route to Toronto for a two-night stay in Canada’s largest city.

Day 7

Toronto sightseeing & at leisure
Take a sightseeing city tour, with the afternoon to explore the city independently. You could take a dinner cruise this evening on Lake Ontario to take in wonderful views of the city’s impressive skyline or head for one of Toronto’s many fine downtown restaurants.

Toronto - Ottawa
From Toronto you’ll head onwards to Ottawa, capital of Canada. An orientation tour will introduce you to this stately city, with its impressive neo gothic Parliament, the residences of the Governor General and the Prime Minister and many fine museums and galleries.

Day 9

Ottawa - Montreal
Your next stop is Montreal, one of the largest Francophone cities outside France itself, a vibrant island city with a charming old town and atmosphere mixing European and North American influences. Dine this evening in a characterful restaurant in the old town.

Day 10

Montreal - Quebec City
Join a guided sightseeing tour of Montreal, which takes in Notre Dame Cathedral, Place Jacques Cartier, the Old Port, the University of Montreal and Mont Royal. Afterwards you will drive along the St Lawrence River to arrive at Quebec City, capital of French Canada and a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you will enjoy a two-night stay.

Quebec City
A local guide will introduce you to many of Quebec’s best sights, like the Latin Quarter, Place d’Armes, Old Quebec, Chateau Frontenac, Dufferin Terrace, the Citadel and the Plains of Abraham. The rest of the day will be at leisure, and you can discover more of the city’s winding streets and atmospheric pavement cafes.

Day 12

Quebec City - Franconia Notch - Boston
Make your way back south to cross the border to return to New England. Make a stop on the way in Franconia Notch in New Hampshire’s scenic White Mountains as you approach Boston and the coast.

Boston
Take a sightseeing tour this morning, walking along the city’s Freedom Trail to learn about America’s early colonists and the story of Boston’s key role in the American Revolution. Spend the afternoon discovering more of the city at your own pace. There’s also an optional excursion to Salem, a pretty seaside town, infamous for its witchcraft trials. Join your fellow travellers at a Farewell Dinner in the evening to celebrate a great American holiday.

Boston - Newport - Depart New York City
Leave Boston and stop at Newport, Rhode Island. Tour this historic 18th century port and see Ocean Drive, lined with the mansions of some of America’s richest families. Drive onwards to New York and the end of the tour, with a complimentary transfer to JFK Airport or to your city centre hotel if you plan to extend your stay.

Day 2

New York – Philadelphia – Washington DC (2 nights)
We start the day with an orientation tour of New York City, viewing Battery Park, Times Square, the mighty Empire State Building and beautiful Central Park. Leaving the city, we travel south to Philadelphia for a visit to the award-winning National Constitution Center and the Liberty Bell Center, home of the Liberty Bell. We view Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, before continuing to Washington DC, the nation’s capital. This evening we enjoy a Highlight Dinner at a local restaurant (Full breakfast / Highlight dinner)

Day 3

Washington DC sightseeing & at leisure
We are joined by a local guide who takes us on a sightseeing tour, viewing the Capitol, the White House and many of the capital’s landmark monuments and memorials. Stops are made at the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials and the WWII and Vietnam Veterans Memorials. We then cross the Potomac to Arlington National Cemetery, the fi nal resting place of more than 300,000 people and site of the Tomb of the Unknowns and the Eternal Flame of the Kennedy grave. Here we learn about the history and traditions of Arlington on board a narrated Tourmobile. The afternoon is at leisure; perhaps visit one of the museums of the Smithsonian Institution or take a leisurely stroll and view the monuments up close. (Full breakfast)

Day 4

Washington DC – Lancaster County – Amish Country
Today your Tour Director will reveal a Hidden Treasure! We head to the lands of the Amish and Mennonites and explore parts of Lancaster County where handmade crafts testify to their old-fashioned values. We pass some of the most productive farms in America, where crops have been grown the same way for the past two hundred years. We visit an Amish farm for a glimpse into a different way of life. This evening, meet with your Amish hosts, participate in a local baking tradition and enjoy a sumptuous Amish-style dinner. (Full breakfast / Be My Guest dinner)

Day 5

Lancaster County – Niagara Falls
We’re off to Niagara Falls to experience this natural wonder. These famous waterfalls thunder and roar, forming one of the most photographed sights in the world. After crossing the border into Canada, we stop to view the falls from high above before checking in at our hotel overlooking both the Canadian and American falls. (Full breakfast / Dinner)

Day 6

Niagara Falls – Toronto (2 nights)
Our highlight today is a cruise aboard the Maid of the Mist, which takes us through the churning waters past American and Bridal Veil Falls and into the dense mist of spray inside the curve of Horseshoe Falls. Later we travel across the Niagara Peninsula and stop at picturesque Niagara-on-the-Lake before continuing on to Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario, one of the five Great Lakes. Day 7

Toronto sightseeing & at leisure
Our sightseeing tour of Toronto includes Queen’s Park, the Harbourfront, views of Casa Loma and the Provincial Parliament Buildings. The afternoon is at leisure to explore this lively city. Tonight is free to discover Toronto’s restaurants or perhaps join a panoramic dinner cruise on the lake with magnificent views of Toronto’s skyline. (Full breakfast)

Toronto – Ottawa

Ottawa – Montreal

Day 10

Montreal – Quebec City (2 nights)

Boston sightseeing & at leisure
This morning’s sightseeing tour highlights the city’s landmarks and the famous Freedom Trail, where we hear about the struggle of the American colonists and their courageous actions. Perhaps take a walk through Boston Common, visit the Bull and Finch Pub of the TV series Cheers fame, or join our optional excursion to the historic campus of Harvard University. Boston – Newport – Depart New York City
We depart Boston and stop at the historic colonial city of Newport, Rhode Island. Our orientation tour includes the restored streets of this 18th century seaport and the stunning Ocean Drive, lined with the Gilded Age mansions of America’s wealthiest families. There is time to explore this fascinating town before returning to New York. A complimentary transfer is provided to New York JFK International Airport and the tour hotel in New York for passengers extending their stay. (Full breakfast)
