A fantastic self-drive itinerary starting in Washington DC and you travel to Colonial Williamsburg, the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, historic Gettysburg before finishing in Philadelhia on this 7 night trip.

Day 1-2

Fly to Washington DC
Welcome to America’s capital, Washington DC and pick up your rental car. This cosmopolitan city is packed with famous sights, free attractions and is home to some of the world’s best-known museums and galleries, including the Smithsonian Institution. Combine this with hip new restaurants and bars, stunning hotels, great nightlife, charming neighborhoods and terrific shopping.

Day 3

Williamsburg (151 miles)
Today visit Colonial Williamsburg, the most extensively restored 18th century town in the US. So compelling is the restoration that you feel that you are in a crown colony over 300 years ago. Perhaps visit Busch Gardens with more than 50 thrilling rides and attractions, great stage shows and a wide variety of food and world-class shops.

Day 4

Shenandoah Valley (171 miles)
Visit Jamestown, founded in 1607 as the first permanent English settlement in the “New World” and Yorktown, historic site of one of the most definitive battles of the American Revolution. Stop in Richmond, Virginia’s capital and once capital of the Confederacy then perhaps tour Monticello,
Thomas Jefferson’s estate with its beautiful gardens. Enjoy panoramic vistas from Skyline Drive in beautiful Shenandoah National Park where you will stay the night.

Day 5

Gettysburg (169 miles)
Travel via Harper’s Ferry, where John Brown’s fateful raid on the US arsenal was the spark that started the Civil War. At Gettysburg National Military Park you can enjoy a tour with a local guide who will vividly recount the 1863 battle that extinguished the Confederate dream of independence. This evening why not have a candlelight dinner at the elegant Dobbin House Tavern, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Day 6-7

Philadelphia (142 miles)
Travel through Lancaster County, past Amish farmlands, to Valley Forge where Washington and his troops endured the harsh winter of 1777 – 1778. Take a tour of the national historic park and Washington’s Headquarters before continuing to Philadelphia. At Independence Square a
number of Philadelphia’s great attractions are conveniently located on one city block. Visit Independence Hall and walk over to the Liberty Bell Pavilion to see the Liberty Bell. Nearby you will find the National Constitution Center and at night enjoy dinner at one of the many great restaurants in Philadelphia’s historic district.

Philadelphia - Airport
Today you check out of your hotel and head for the airport for your flight home
