Day 2

Boston - Maine Coast - Bar Harbor (2 nights)
Start your tour by heading northwards via New Hampshire and the town of Portsmouth to enter Maine, driving along the scenic coastline, passing quaint typical New England fishing villages. Crossing a narrow spit you’ll arrive on Mount Desert Island and the coastal resort of Bar Harbor for a two-night stop. The area is justly famous for its seafood and you’ll enjoy a traditional New England lobster bake this evening.
Hotel: Bar Harbor Regency

Day 3

Acadia National Park excursion; Bar Harbor
Explore the beautiful scenery of the island and Acadia National Park, which is New England’s only national park, resplendent in its autumnal colours. You’ll visit the peak of Cadillac Mountain, the area’s highest point, to see panoramic views of the bay, park and Bar Harbor itself. Spend the rest of the days wandering the pretty streets of Bar Harbor, with its boutique shops and galleries. You can also take a whalewatching or nature cruise.

Day 4

Bar Harbor - Pinkham Notch - North Conway
Turn west and travel inland through colourful woodlands, crossing the state border into New Hampshire. Stop off at Pinkham Notch to take the gondola up Wildcat Mountain where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views across the White Mountains. Your night’s stop will be at the resort town of North Conway, and after dinner there will be an informative talk about the local flora and fauna.
Hotel: Fox Ridge Resort

Day 5

North Conway - Woodstock - Killington
Travel on through the New Hampshire countryside to enter the rural state of Vermont, dotted by farmsteads and small villages, all surrounded by the dramatic colours of autumn. There will be a stop at Billings Farm and Museum to get an insight into traditional New England farming and then you will arrive at Woodstock, one of America’s prettiest little towns, a typical New England settlement, with covered wooden bridge, village green and elegant homes. Your overnight stop will be in the heart of the Green Mountains in Killington.
Hotel: Killington Grand Resort Hotel and Spa

Day 6

Killington - Fort Ticonderoga - Lake Placid
Visit Fort Ticonderoga on the southern shores of Lake Champlain. This strategic fortress was built in the 1750s and was active during colonial and revolutionary times. Entering New York State you’ll arrive at the Adirondack Mountains, a protected area of lakes and stunning hills. Your overnight stay is in Lake Placid, site of the 1980 Winter Olympics and you will tour the Olympic arena. Later you’ll have time to explore the town and lakeside independently.

Lake Placid - Albany - Springfield
Driving south through the Adirondacks you’ll approach the shores of Lake George, a forested area with a rich history. Here British and French forces clashed to obtain control of this strategic area. Continue onwards to Albany, the New York state capital, at the meeting point of the Erie Canal and Hudson River. Visit the Rockefeller Empire State Plaza before crossing over to the rolling Berkshires in western Massachusetts. There’s a visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum to see the work of the area’s most famous artist before arriving in Springfield for your last night. Join your Tour Director and fellow travellers at this evening’s Farewell Dinner.
Hotel: Hilton Garden Inn Springfield
