New England in the fall is an unforgettable experience, and this tour takes you from Boston through some of the most beautiful rural scenery and autumnal colours, stopping at quaint towns and pretty coastal resorts like Bar Harbor on the way. Explore Vermont, the White Mountains and the shores of Lake Champlain before passing through the Adirondacks to the Berkshires on the way back to Boston.

Boston - Maine Coast - Bar Harbor (2 nights)
Start your tour by heading northwards via New Hampshire and the town of Portsmouth to enter Maine, driving along the scenic coastline, passing quaint typical New England fishing villages. Crossing a narrow spit you’ll arrive on Mount Desert Island and the coastal resort of Bar Harbor for a two-night stop. The area is justly famous for its seafood and you’ll enjoy a traditional New England lobster bake this evening.

Acadia National Park excursion; Bar Harbor
Explore the beautiful scenery of the island and Acadia National Park, which is New England’s only national park, resplendent in its autumnal colours. You’ll visit the peak of Cadillac Mountain, the area’s highest point, to see panoramic views of the bay, park and Bar Harbor itself. Spend the rest of the days wandering the pretty streets of Bar Harbor, with its boutique shops and galleries. You can also take a whalewatching or nature cruise.
Bar Harbor - Pinkham Notch - North Conway
Turn west and travel inland through colourful woodlands, crossing the state border into New Hampshire. Stop off at Pinkham Notch to take the gondola up Wildcat Mountain where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views across the White Mountains. Your night’s stop will be at the resort town of North Conway, and after dinner there will be an informative talk about the local flora and fauna.

North Conway - Woodstock - Killington
Travel on through the New Hampshire countryside to enter the rural state of Vermont, dotted by farmsteads and small villages, all surrounded by the dramatic colours of autumn. There will be a stop at Billings Farm and Museum to get an insight into traditional New England farming and then you will arrive at Woodstock, one of America’s prettiest little towns, a typical New England settlement, with covered wooden bridge, village green and elegant homes. Your overnight stop will be in the heart of the Green Mountains in Killington.

Killington - Fort Ticonderoga - Lake Placid
Visit Fort Ticonderoga on the southern shores of Lake Champlain. This strategic fortress was built in the 1750s and was active during colonial and revolutionary times. Entering New York State you’ll arrive at the Adirondack Mountains, a protected area of lakes and stunning hills. Your overnight stay is in Lake Placid, site of the 1980 Winter Olympics and you will tour the Olympic arena. Later you’ll have time to explore the town and lakeside independently.

Lake Placid - Albany - Springfield
Driving south through the Adirondacks you’ll approach the shores of Lake George, a forested area with a rich history. Here British and French forces clashed to obtain control of this strategic area. Continue onwards to Albany, the New York state capital, at the meeting point of the Erie Canal and Hudson River. Visit the Rockefeller Empire State Plaza before crossing over to the rolling Berkshires in western Massachusetts. There’s a visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum to see the work of the area’s most famous artist before arriving in Springfield for your last night. Join your Tour Director and fellow travellers at this evening’s Farewell Dinner.

Springfield - Lexington & Concord - Depart Boston
Take in Lexington and Concord, the villages where the first shots of the American Revolution were fired in April 1775, famous from Longfollow’s poem Paul Revere’s Ride. You’ll see Concord Bridge, the Minuteman Statue and Lexington Green. The last stage of your journey will be back to Boston, with a complimentary transfer to the airport or your hotel if you choose to extend your holiday in the city.

Heading north, we travel through Portsmouth, New Hampshire, into the state of Maine. We then journey along the state’s scenic shoreline, offering a glimpse into its rich past in whaling, shipbuilding and lobstering. The quaint villages along the way typify quintessential New England, and our Tour Director will show us a Hidden Treasure. We then cross a narrow spit of land to Mount Desert Island and the seaside town of Bar Harbor for our two-night stay. This evening join your fellow travelers for a Maine lobster dinner. Acadia National Park excursion & Bar Harbor at leisure
This morning we explore beautiful Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park, the only national park in New England. Its wooded roads offer views of quiet ponds and rocky beaches, highlighted by the blaze of autumn colors. A stop at the top of Cadillac Mountain provides us with sweeping views of the park, Bar Harbor and the islands of Frenchman Bay. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore Bar Harbor – perhaps take an optional nature cruise, or simply relax in this quaint village. (Full breakfast)

Bar Harbor – Pinkham Notch – North Conway
Leaving the Maine coast we turn inland and travel through the colorful woodlands of maples, birch and sumac. Entering New Hampshire, we stop at Pinkham Notch for a gondola ride to the top of Wildcat Mountain with incredible views of the White Mountains. We spend the night in the town of North Conway, a popular year-round resort. After dinner we enjoy a presentation on the flora and fauna of the White Mountains. (Full breakfast / Dinner)

North Conway – Woodstock – Killington
More breathtaking vistas await us today as we travel through New Hampshire into Vermont, New England’s most rural state, where tiny villages and remote farm houses are framed by the striking autumn colors. We visit Billings Farm & Museum for an interesting look back into New England farm life before arriving in Woodstock, often called “the prettiest small town in America.” There is time to enjoy the romantic charm of this quintessential New England village with its covered bridge, quaint streets and stately homes surrounding the village green. We continue to our overnight accommodation in Killington, located in the heart of the beautiful Green Mountains. (Full breakfast / Dinner)

Woodstock Excursion
After a photo stop at Quechee Gorge, visit the Rockefellers’ renowned Billings Farm & Museum, a working dairy farm and farm life museum. Next is the quintessential Vermont village of Woodstock often called "the prettiest small town in America". There is time to enjoy the romantic charm of this lovely New England village with its covered bridge, quaint streets and stately homes surrounding the village green. Leaving Woodstock, stop in Plymouth Notch to visit President Calvin Coolidge’s childhood homestead and where he was sworn into presidency while vacationing. Return to Ludlow in the late afternoon where the remainder of the day is at leisure. This evening, enjoy dinner at the hotel. (Full breakfast, Dinner)

Ludlow – Springfield
Cross into western Massachusetts and enjoy the spectacular autumn colours on a scenic journey through the rolling countryside of the Berkshires. Later, stop at the Norman Rockwell Museum to learn more about the area’s most famous artist. View the artist’s personal artifacts, momentos and world-renowned images depicting the surrounding New England community and its residents. Upon arrival in Springfield, enjoy a farewell dinner with newfound friends. (Full breakfast, Farewell dinner)

Springfield – Lexington & Concord – Depart Boston
Our journey this morning takes us into the heart of Revolutionary War history with a visit to the towns of Lexington and Concord, made famous in Longfellow’s poem about “Paul Revere’s Ride.” It was in these two small villages that in April 1775 the first shots of the American Revolution were fired. We also see the Minuteman Statue, Concord Bridge and Lexington Green, before returning to Boston. A complimentary transfer is provided to Boston International Airport and the tour hotel in Boston for passengers extending their stay. (Full breakfast)
