On this deluxe escorted tour, you’ll experience the glamour of the southern U.S. from elegant antebellum plantations to exclusive island resorts and delicious southern comfort cuisine. You’ll begin in the exciting city of Atlanta, followed by a stay on the estate of one of America’s only castles, before riding a horse drawn carriage along the cobbled streets of historic Charleston. Experience a more relaxed, laid-back pace of life, spending time on beautiful white sand beaches and gazing out at the Atlantic from South Carolina’s barrier islands, and then wander through Savannah, with its grand antebellum architecture nestled among giant live oak trees draped with Spanish moss.

Day 1

Begin your journey in the city of Atlanta, the exciting capital of the New South, teeming with history, cultural attractions and world-class restaurants that serve fine traditional southern fare, including Mary Mac’s Tearoom, where you’ll enjoy a Welcome Dinner and wine.

Day 2

You will travel to Asheville, North Carolina, one of the most beautiful towns in the South. Surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, this is the home of one of America’s own “castles,” Biltmore Estate. Step inside and take a trip back in time, to an era of refined elegance on an after-hours guided tour of this National Historic Landmark, learning about the secrets it holds secrets of the wealthy Vanderbilt family and their famous guests. You won’t have to go far when it’s comes to an end, as you’ll overnight at The Inn on Biltmore Estate, a mansion on the 8,000-acre estate.

Day 3

Head to historic Charleston, a rare southern city that’s managed to retain the charms of its past, while reinventing itself for modern times. Take a horse-drawn carriage ride along the cobbled streets, lined with stately antebellum mansions before enjoying an evening at The Governor Thomas Bennett House you won’t soon forget. Host and Chef Annie Mayo will fill you in on “lowcountry” cuisine before serving up a delicious dinner paired with wine and a performance by talented local musicians.

Day 4

In the morning, get an in-depth look at southern plantation life at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, named one of “America’s Most Beautiful Gardens” by Travel + Leisure Magazine. The oldest public tourist site in the Lowcountry, it opened in 1870, and is filled with thousands of spectacular flowers and plants. You can even get a private demonstration with a maker of the famed Charleston Sweetgrass Baskets, and learn about their history in addition to taking a guided tram tour of the vast grounds and the grand main house.

Day 5

It’s all about slowing down the pace here in the south, and you’ll be able to do just that with a relaxing morning before venturing to your next destination: Jekyll Island. Along the way, stop in Beaufort on Port Royal Island, the second-oldest city in South Carolina, renowned for its historic antebellum architecture and mouth-watering local cuisine. Idyllic St. Simons Island is also a must-stop, popular for its idyllic white sand beaches and moss-draped oak trees. Continuing the “island-hopping” experience your journey for today’s ends at your gorgeous resort on Jekyll Island, where you’ll indulge in a fantastic Highlight Dinner with wine before taking in stunning ocean views from the verandah.

Day 6

After a lazy morning gazing out at the striking natural beauty that surrounds you on Jekyyll Island, join a guided tram tour of this unspoiled coastal isle and its 240-acre National Historic Landmark District, before heading back to the mainland. Next you’ll journey to Savannah, a favourite southern city for many, and the oldest in Georgia. This historic town revolves around magnificent antebellum architecture and sits alongside the Savannah River, tucked among giant live oak trees draped with Spanish moss. It’s managed to preserve its past with pride and elegance that can be seen throughout the impressive mansions, cotton warehouses and Colonial public buildings. Explore places like Monterey Square and the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist before enjoying Southern hospitality and a private cocktail with the third-generation owner of the renowned Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room and a private dinner at her restaurant.

Day 7

In the morning, you’ll tour one of the finest examples of English regency architecture in the nation, the Owens-Thomas House, and then embark on a classic trolley tour. Arguably the best way to spend your last full day in the South, not only will you learn all about Savannahs’ culture and history from an expert, but you’ll get to discover a wealth of awe-inspiring architecture, over 20 historic squares and the alluring tree canopy. Cap it all off with a Farewell Dinner and wine at the River House, which sits within a restored 18th-century cotton warehouse.

Day 8

If you’re not ready to say goodbye to the glamorous south, return to where it all started, the Omni Atlanta Hotel at CNN Center to extend your stay, or bid farewell and take the transfer back to Atlanta International Airport for your journey home
