We think this is the ultimate holiday for adventurous families, exploring the spectacular national parks of Yellowstone and Grand Teton and enjoying myriad outdoor activities in the mountain towns of Jackson Hole and Park City. We’ve designed the itinerary with families in mind, splitting up any long driving distances and including the rental of an SUV in the price. But this itinerary is just our suggestion - We can tailor-make this holiday to suit the size and ages of your family, and can add extend your stay in any of the locations if you have more time to enjoy this magnificent region of America.

Beginning in Salt Lake City, in no time you’ll be out into the wide open skies of Wyoming, and into the moutains, enjoyoing a few days in the charming town of Jackson Hole, which you’ll love for the vast range of activities you can enjoy – rafting, horse riding, biking and hiking. Then onwards to famous Yellowstone National Park with its fascinating wildlife,  dramatic canyons, geysers and hot springs. Next is the dramatic scenery of the Grand Teton National Park where you can spot bison, moose, elk and more. Finish in Park City, home to the 2002 Winter Olympics and with its historic main street lined with characterful shops and bars dating back to the silver rush of the mid 1800’s. (TM)

Day 1

Salt Lake City

Arrive into Salt Lake City and pick up your SUV to drive to your first hotel just a few minutes from the airport

Overnight: Hilton Garden Inn Salt Lake City (or similar)

Day 2

Salt Lake City – Jackson Hole (287 miles)

You can either do some sight-seeing or shopping in Salt Lake City first, or simply get off onto the road and head north into the mountains. You’ll drive north along Great Salt Lake, and leave the state of Utah for the wide open spaces of Wyoming. It’s quite a long drive today of around 4 to 5 hours, so you can break it up with a stop to stretch your legs at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and there are several small towns en route where you can stop for lunch. Arrive into the great mountain town of Jackson Hole and check into your hotel for three nights

Days 3-4

Jackson Hole

The whole family will enjoy a couple of days in and around Jackson Hole. There are so many different things to do, appealing to all levels of energy and age. The adrenalin junkies can go white water rafting, the energetic can mountain bike for miles along the trails, those wanting a more relaxed activity can enjoy a scenic float trip down the river and everyone will enjoy the experience of riding the aerial tram. If you buy a Grand Adventure pass you can enjoy unlimited one day use of the Tram, Ropes Course, Bungee Trampoline, Climbing Wall and Bike Park at Teton Village.

Day 5

Jackson Hole – Yellowstone National Park (117 miles)

Today the scenery on your road trip will be truly spectacular, and whilst the mileage isn’t excessive, it may take you quite a while as you’ll be wanting to stop frequently to admire the view and take photos. You’ll pass the Grand Teton mountains and Yellowstone Lake, before bearing to West Yellowstone to check into the Explorer Cabins, which will be your base for two nights.

Day 6

Yellowstone National Park

You have a full day of exploring this awe-inspiring wilderness, which features dramatic canyons and rivers, forests and trails, hot springs and geysers. It's also home to many wild animals, including bears, wolves, bison, elk and antelope. You can visit the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center for close up viewing of the rescued animals in their care. Marvel at the “Old Faithful” geyser with its hot water eruptions, and enjoy rambles along the walkways to any number of other geysers and waterfalls.

Day 7

Yellowstone National Park - Grand Teton National Park (113 miles)

Today you’re heading back south, and it would be a good day to stop off at Colter Bay en route to rent a kayak or a motor boat to explore serene Jackson Lake with its spectacular mountain back drop. Continue to the Togwotee Mountain Lodge just outside the National Park, where you’ll spend the next two nights.

Day 8

Grand Teton National Park

Today you can just sit back, relax and admire the stunning scenery from the Lodge. But for those seeking adventure, there is plenty to do, whether its horse riding, fishing, mountain biking or hiking.

Day 9

Grand Teton National Park- Fossil Butte National Monument – Park City (321 miles)

It’s a big drive today, but the first part will pass quickly as you journey through the spectacular parks. Then you could stop off in Kemmerer, an amazing centre of fossils where there is the Fossil Butte National Monument - a simply astonishing collection of fossils showing incredible detail of snakes, birds, bats, fish and a three-toed horse. Then continue south to your final destination – Park City Utah.

Day 10

Flight home

If you’d like to stay a little longer, there’s lots to do in and around Park City – visit the Olympic Park to see some great exhibits on skiing and other winter sports. Or simply relax in the hotel which has two indoor pools, an indoor/outdoor pool, a spa and a kids club. Otherwise, just drive to the airport to drop off your hire car and catch the flight home.
