Overview

This self-drive holiday has been designed specifically for families, with an itinerary offering the opportunity to experience a wide variety of activities and sights. Prices are based on two adults and two children and include the rental of an SUV vehicle. We can tailor-make this holiday to suit the size and ages of your family, and can add more hotels at the beginning and end if you have more time to enjoy this magnificent area of America.

Beginning in Salt Lake City, in no time you’ll be out into the wide open skies of Wyoming. Enjoy a three night stay in Jackson Hole where you can enjoy all sorts of activities on and around the Snake River, from white water rafting to a more gentle scenic river float, and from horseback riding to enjoying the magnificent views from the aerial tram.

You will have a couple of days to enjoy the wildlife and scenery of the Grand Teton National Park, before travelling on to the famous Yellowstone National Park with its fascinating wildlife,  dramatic canyons, geysers and hot springs.

  • Admire the glacier capped peaks surrounding the lake whilst enjoying a boat ride on Jenny Lake
  • Extend you stay at the beginning or end of the tour, with an extra night or two in Salt Lake City, to see the sights such as Temple Square – the birthplace of the Mormons , or indulge in the extensive shopping with its many malls, shopping villages and speciality shops or visit the excellent museums such as the “Discovery Gateway” – the Children's Museum of Utah.

Day 1

Fly to Salt Lake City

Arrive into Salt Lake City and pick up your SUV to drive to your first hotel

Overnight: Staybridge Suites Salt Lake City (or similar)

Day 2

Salt Lake City – Jackson Hole (279 miles)

Head north towards  Jackson Hole, and the Snake River Cabin Village  in a beautiful setting just south of this charming town, and will be your home for the next three nights. Jackson Hole sits in the valley carved out by the Snake River and is framed by the Gros Ventre and Teton mountains.

Days 3 & 4

Jackson Hole

The whole family will enjoy a couple of days in and around Jackson Hole. There are so many different things to do, appealing to all levels of energy and age. The adrenalin junkies can go white water rafting, the energetic can mountain bike for miles along the trails, those wanting a more relaxed activity can enjoy a scenic float trip down the river and everyone will enjoy the experience of riding the aerial tram. If you buy a Grand Adventure pass you can enjoy unlimited one day use of the Tram, Ropes Course, Bungee Trampoline, Climbing Wall and Bike Park at Teton Village.

Day 5

Jackson Hole – Grand Teton National Park (55 miles)

Drive north to begin your exploration of the Grand Teton National Park. Take a short detour en route to visit Jenny Lake a beautiful place just south of Grand Teton where you could go for a walk along the banks or take a boat ride. Or continue on to Jackson Lake which is a prime place for spotting moose and other animals. You will spend the next two nights at the Togwotee Mountain Lodge just outside the National Park

Day 6

Grand Teton National Park

Today you can just sit back, relax and admire the stunning scenery from the Lodge. But for those seeking adventure, there is plenty to do, whether its horse riding, fishing, mountain biking or hiking.

Day 7

Grand Teton National Park – Yellowstone area (117 miles)

There are so many designated view points on this route that you will be spoilt for choice. Marvel at the “Old Faithful” geyser with its hot water eruptions, and enjoy rambles along the walkways to any number of other geysers and waterfalls. Your destination this afternoon is West Yellowstone and the Explorer Cabins. You do have the choice to stay here or at an alternative ranch which is another 45 minutes drive north, offering Cowboy breakfasts and wagon rides (supplement payable).

Days 8 & 9

Yellowstone National Park

You have two full days of exploring this awe-inspiring wilderness recreation area , which features dramatic canyons and rivers, forests and trails, hot springs and geysers. It's also home to many wild animals, including bears, wolves, bison, elk and antelope. You can visit the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center for close up viewing of the rescued animals in their care.

Overnight: Explorer Cabins West Yellowstone

Day 10

Yellowstone – Salt Lake City (321 miles)

Leave the wilderness behind and drive back to Salt Lake City for your final evening

Overnight: Staybridge Suites Salt Lake City (or similar)

Day 11

Depart for your flight home

Arrive home
