My Wedding Day in Hawaii

Typical USA Wedding

Day 1 Saturday / Day 2 Sunday James and I flew from London Heathrow, arriving in Hawaii after a stop over in Los Angeles and checked into our amazing hotel. The island of Maui is so diverse, with black sand beaches, lush tropical forests, stunning waterfalls and crystal clear waters, we immediately knew we had picked the perfect backdrop for our dream wedding. We chose Maui, as our wedding coordinator at American Sky advised us that whilst it is Hawaii’s second largest island, it is less populated than the other islands and would therefore offers us the seclusion we were looking for.

Day 3 Monday We met Jane, our wedding coordinator, who went through the paperwork and ensured no stone was unturned. There was so much choice, but we agreed that we wanted to get married on Friday at sunset at Makena Beach Cove, also known as ‘Big Beach’ (being 3 miles long and 100 yards wide) and renowned as the best on the island. Jane discussed all details to ensure we got a Hawaii State Marriage License as well as arranged the flowers and photography.

Days 4, 5 and 6 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Three essential days in order to meet the residency requirement of Hawaii – but also so we could work on our suntans and just relax before the big day!

Day 7 Friday Our Big Day (see below).

Day 8 Saturday After all the celebrations from the day before, we enjoyed a late Champagne breakfast in our room.

Day 9 Sunday - Day 14 Friday We spent our second week just relaxing on the beach, enjoying every moment of our honeymoon.

My Big Day

My Big Wedding Day

09:00 I had a leisurely breakfast with my sister and mother, which had to be timed to perfection to ensure I didn’t run into James at the buffet! We then made our way to the swimming pool for a couple of hours before having to get ready

12:00 We headed for the spa, where we had our nails, hair and make up done, which was just so relaxing.

15:00 After a light lunch and a glass or two of Champagne, the photographer arrived, as did my flowers. Jane was permanently on hand to ensure everything went to plan. It was also great to hear that James, his best man and brothers had made it out of the bar and were indeed getting ready!

17:00 After a few last minute panics (on my part!), I slipped my dress on and was ready to go. After an emotional talk with my father, we headed to the beach where our guests and of course James were waiting patiently. By the time the ceremony started taking place, the sun was just setting and the ocean below us was breaking on the vast white sands – it was a moment that I will never forget.

After the ceremony James and I had a wonderful evening with all our family and friends, accompanied by great food and lots of Champagne.
