Overview

Journey through the Southern states on the trip of a lifetime! This spectacular tour takes you on an all-American adventure through some of the most popular destinations in the South, starting in Houston and finishing in Miami. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to experience the wonders of such destinations as Atlanta, Charleston, Nashville, Memphis and Jackson. This really is an unforgettable experience through some fascinating and beautiful locations.

Details

Day 1

Houston

Arrive into Houston and meet your Tour Director at the hotel – your overnight stay will take place in Houston.

Day 2

Houston - Lafayette (219 miles)

Today you will take part in an orientation tour of Houston, which is an interesting city due to its innovative architecture. You’ll have chance to visit the official NASA facilities at the Johnson Space Center, home to numerous space artefacts – along the way, you’ll see a real spacecraft, touch a piece of moon rock, walk through the Skylab space station in the Starship Gallery or see a space shuttle mock-up. You’ll later leave for Lafayette, with an optional boat ride on the Atchafalaya bayou. Enjoy a typical Cajun dinner (incl.) with regional specialties and hoedown in a leisurely setting, spending the night in Lafayette.

Day 3

Lafayette -  New Orleans (181 miles)

Enjoy a morning tour of the city, in particular the cathedral and the Evangeline Oak which was immortalised by the poet Longfellow, then leave for Saint Martinville. Nicknamed Little Paris, this city is a rare blend of American city and European village. You’ll be told the story of Evangeline, then continue on to Avery Island and take a tour of the Tabasco plant followed by a visit of the exotic Jungle Gardens and bird City. Drive through Morgan City and then through the Terrebonne swamps in the afternoon. Journey on to Thibodaux and continue on to New Orleans for your overnight stay.

Day 4

New Orleans

Begin the day with a walking tour of the city, heading to the Vieux Carré region of the town to see the French Market, Saint Louis Cathedral and the Cabildo which dates back to the 18th century. In the afternoon, take a guided tour of New Orleans, in particular the Garden District and the French Quarter. Spend your overnight stay in the centre of town, with the chance to enjoy an optional dinner cruise on the Mississippi with live jazz aboard the authentic Natchez steamboat.

Day 5

New Orleans - Baton Rouge (116 miles)

There’s time in the morning to spend at leisure, followed by a morning drive to two plantations overlooking the Mississippi River. You’ll be able to imagine the opulence of the region prior to the Civil War. Continue on to Baton Rouge, capital of the state of Louisiana and where your overnight stay will take place.

Day 6

Baton Rouge - Natchez - Saint Francisville - Jackson (197 miles)

Start the day with a tour of the city to explore the Capitol and Louisiana State University, which greatly participates in the local economy. Continue on to Saint Francisville for a chance to visit the Rosedown plantation and gardens, inspired by those at Versailles. In the afternoon, drive to Natchez in the neighbouring state of Mississippi, a city full of character and Southern charm. Your overnight stay will take place in Jackson.

Day 7

Jackson - Vicksburg - Memphis  (297 miles)

In the morning, make a stop at the Vicksburg National Military Park, which was established in 1899 by Congress to commemorate one of the most decisive battles of the American Civil War. The area holds 1325 historic monuments and markers, 20 miles of reconstructed trenches, a 16-mile tour road, antebellum home, 144 emplaced cannons, the restored Union gunboat-USS Cairo and the Vicksburg National Cemetery.

Afterwards, head for the Deep South for your arrival in Memphis – home of the blues. Spend time this afternoon visiting Graceland, home of Elvis, with the option in the evening to attend a concert in a famous Beale Street club. Your overnight stay will take place in Memphis.

Day 8

Memphis - Nashville (213 miles)

Begin the day with a visit to the National Civil Rights Museum, then head to the famous Sun Studio in Memphis where several blues and rock’n’roll artists recorded their first hits in the ‘50s. Continue your journey to Nashville, known as the capital of country music, where you’ll embark on a tour of the city and enjoy some time at your leisure. You may want to end the day with a drink in a typical bar with country music and dance! Your overnight stay will take place in Nashville.

Day 9

Nashville - Lynchburg -Atlanta (278 miles)

This morning, visit the Country Music Hall of Fame before continuing to Lynchburg and a visit of the Jack Daniels distillery. There will be an orientation tour before you leave Tennessee and continue on to Atlanta. Your overnight stay will take place in Atlanta.

Day 10

Atlanta

Today will include a city tour and a visit to Martin Luther King’s birth home. You’ll then discover the famous CNN studios ‘behind the scenes’. The afternoon is yours to spend at your leisure; alternatively, you can take part in the following optional activities:
Optional 1: Atlanta History Center
Optional 2: Coca Cola factory

Day 11

Atlanta - Charleston (319 miles)

This morning, you will depart to the state of South Carolina to Charleston, providing plenty of entertainment and spectacular beaches. Upon arrival you’ll be met with Charleston with its big mansions and charming history, with much of its architecture dating back over 300 years. In the afternoon, take a nice walk along the beaches of Charleston to unwind then transfer back to your hotel for an overnight stay in Charleston.

Day 12

Charleston - Savannah (109 miles)

In the morning, you will visit the Magnolia Plantation – a park dating back from 1680, including more than 900 species of camellias, 250 types of azaleas and hundreds of other beautiful species which blossom throughout the year. Depart back to the state of Georgia towards Savannah where you can visit the historic district that has plenty of Southern charm. There’ll be free time in the city for wandering and enjoying the Southern life of pace – check in at the hotel in the late afternoon and enjoy an overnight stay in Savannah.

Day 13

Savannah - St Augustine - Orlando (313 miles)

This morning you’ll continue on your journey to the south, towards the state of Florida and the city of St. Augustine. Visit the city aboard a Trolley Tour and make a stop at the St. Augustine History Museum, on your way to Orlando for your overnight stay in Kissimmee.

Day 14

Orlando - Miami Beach (224 miles)

The morning is yours to spend at leisure, then in the afternoon drive to Miami Beach and enjoy a farewell dinner (half board) and an overnight stay in Miami.

Day 15

Miami Beach

Take a tour of Miami, including the Art Deco District, Bayside Market, and Coconut Grove, before your departure.

If returning from Miami today, an evening departure flight after 3pm is required.

Day 16

Arrive back home.
