Explore the Beauty of Austin

For UK visitors to Austin, Texas, it might initially seem as though this is a pleasant city to break the journey; however Austin is famously known for its huge live music repertoire and it is worth extending your stay to absorb this vibrant community.

We think that with over 200 live music venues, Austin offers something for every music taste – be it in the park or even in the airport when you arrive. You can discover these venues as you wander around the city and parks. There are good guided walks to choose from which illustrate the history of the city including SegCity Segway Tours which offer guided trips from Sixth Street to the State Capitol with several stops along the way.

Alternatively try walking or running along Lady Bird Lake “Hike and Bike Trail”. Located in the heart of the city, this 10-mile off-road trail is very popular with Austin locals. A ride on the Zilker Zephyr is another fun activity for children - this miniature train takes you and your family on a tour around Barton Creek and Lady Bird Lake.

Austin offers an abundance of outdoor activities and with 300 days of sunshine and an average temperature of 68 degrees cycling, stand-up paddle boarding, water-biking or canoe-paddling are just some of the activities to choose from along the trail. Austin is also the perfect setting for year-round golfers.

If you fancy a swim head to Barton Springs Pool - a natural spring-fed watering hole that's 3 acres in size and a constant 68-degrees. Deep Eddy is the oldest swimming pool in Texas with a shallow area perfect for the kids as an alternative.

Austin is also home to a wonderful ballet and world-class museums – in particular the celebrated history museum
