2006 has been hailed as the safest year on record according to The International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) annual Safety Report released today.. The results show one accident for every 1.5m flights for Western-built jets which is a 14% improvement on 2005. Russia and other members of the Commonwealth of Independent States had the highest accident rate of all regions with 8.6 accidents per million flights.
