Overview

Tour New England by deluxe escorted motorcoach, starting in the historic New England city of Boston. Drive along the coast to Maine then head westwards to the White Mountains of New Hampshire and through the scenic Lakes Region to arrive in Vermont and the Green Mountains. Explore Shaker country and the Berkshire Hills, crossing back into Massachusets and onwards to Rhode Island and yachting centre Newport. There’ll be time to explore the beaches and towns of Cape Cod, including a ferry trip over to Marha’s Vineyard, before finishing the eventful tour back in the city of Boston.

Day 1

Outward bound flight to Boston with a shuttle bus transfer to the Sheraton Newton Hotel for a two-night stay.
 

Day 2

Boston.
A morning tour of one of the USA’s oldest cities, with sights ranging from the historic Old North Church to the modern John Hancock Tower. Free time in the afternoon to explore this fascinating city.
Overnight at Sheraton Newton Hotel.
 

Day 3

Boston – Mid-coast Maine.
Depart at 9am for the 107-mile drive up Massachusett’s north shore to Maine’s southern coast. See the charming fishing port of Gloucester and the Fishermen’s Memorial Statue plus the artistic communities of Rockport in Massachusetts and Kennebunkport, Maine.
Overnight at Holiday Inn Express South Portland.
 

Day 4

South Portland - White Mountains.
A 66-mile trip, beginning with a stop at Portland Head Light and then heading inland to New Hampshire’s White Mountains, where you will travel along the scenic Kancamagus Highway, an old Indian Trail cutting through the National Forest. There is an aerial tram ride to the top of Cannon Mountain, which enjoys fantastic panoramic views (weather permitting).

Day 5

White Mountains - Green Mountains.
Pass through the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, where more than 1,300 lakes and hundreds of ponds dot the landscape. You will pass Lake Winnipesaukee and Lake Squam during the 171-mile journey, which continues to the Green Mountains of Vermont, stopping for the spectacular views at Quechee Gorge. Continue to the quaint town of Woodstock, complete with its covered wooden bridge.

Day 6

Green Mountains - Connecticut River Valley.
Head south through Vermont, with its rolling hills and fields, stopping in Manchester Village, with its village green, pretty high street and designer outlets. Continue south on this 174-mile drive, entering the Berkshire Hills in Massachusetts, taking a visit to Hancock Shaker Village. The now-famous Shaker-style furniture and artefacts that you can see here were originally intended as a simple expression of their worship.

Day 7

Connecticut River Valley - Newport and Cape Cod.
A 180-mile journey, travelling first to Rhode Island, America’s smallest state, for a stop at Newport, the sailing capital of New England. At the turn of the 20th century many of America’s most wealthy families lived in palatial ‘summer cottages’ on the route to Cape Cod, where you can take an independent return ferry trip and sightseeing tour to the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Alternatively you can join a tour of Cape Cod and a whalewatching cruise (weather permitting).
Two nights at the Four Points Sheraton Hyannis, Cape Cod.
 

Day 8

Take the tour of Cape Cod and a whalewatching trip or the ferry for a tour of Martha’s Vineyard.
Overnight at the Four Points Sheraton Hyannis, Cape Cod.
 

Day 9

Cape Cod - Boston.
It is 75 miles back to Boston, first passing through Sandwich, the Cape’s oldest town and then stopping at Plimoth Plantation for a chance to see what life was like for the early settlers in 1627. Drive to Boston Airport for your return flight.
 

Day 10

Morning arrival in Ireland.
