One of America’s best-loved and most famous road trips, Route 66 is as iconic as the destinations it passes through. Known as the ‘Main Street of America;, this historic journey takes you from Chicago to Los Angeles, stopping at St Louis, Oklahoma, Amarillo, Albuquerque, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and more along the way. You’ll be accompanied by your tour guide who will showcase the very best attractions on your drive through charming towns and incredibly sights.

Day 1

Chicago

Begin your Route 66 adventure upon arrival into Chicago – check-in at your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. In the evening, meet your tour guide and fellow travellers at a welcome reception at your hotel.

Day 2

Chicago – Springfield – St. Louis

After an introduction to the Windy City, which will include Lakeshore Drive and the Magnificent Mile, you’ll hit the road again to explore the culture and history of America’s Mother Road at the Route 66 Association Hall of Fame and Museum. From here, make your way to Springfield and St Louis – the gateway to the west.

Day 3

St Louis

Today will be spent exploring St Louis and its many attractions, from the famed St Louis Gateway Arch to a guided tour of the Anheuser-Busch Brewery where you’ll enjoy a taste of this local beer. In the evening, you’ll learn how to mix up your own delicious BBQ sauce with a team of expert chefs with a traditional American barbecue.

Day 4

St Louis – Meramec Caverns – Branson

Begin today with a crossing of the Mississippi River via the Chain of Rocks Bridge then go underground in Meramec Caverns – a former hideout spot for Jesse James – where you can catch a glimpse of the amazing subterranean formations. Visit the Ozarks and the lively musical mecca of Branson where you’ll have some alone time to explore at your own pace.

Day 5

Branson – Will Rogers Memorial – Oklahoma City

Head to eastern Oklahoma via an incredibly scenic highway known as the Will Rogers Highway, stopping en-route to visit the museum dedication to the famous American humourist. In the evening, enjoy a regional meal at Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse in the bustling warehouse district of Bricktown.

Day 6

Oklahoma City

Experience the Old West at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum today with its collection of Native American art and antique firearms. Afterwards, there will be a visit to the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum which honours the 1995 bombing victims – you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about the events of that day and hear stories of the tragic event from someone who experienced it. The rest of the day is free for you to explore at leisure.

Day 7

Oklahoma – Route 66 Museum – Amarillo

In Clinton you will explore a classic collection of Route 66 memorabilia and history to learn more about the culture of this iconic route. Crossing into the Texas Panhandle, you’ll return to the Old Route 66 for a scenic drive before stopping off at Amarillo for your overnight stay.

Day 8

Amarillo – Albuquerque

First stop today is a Route 66 icon – the Cadillac Ranch pop art installation situated just outside Amarillo where 10 classic Cadillacs are buried nose down in the dirt. Stop off in Tucumcari afterwards to see a large number of vintage motels and restaurants built between the 1930s and 1950s which are still in existence today. The final stop of the day is at Albuquerque where you’ll don your best ‘50s attire to enjoy dinner at a classic ‘50s diner, complete with jukebox and blue-plate specials.

Day 9

Albuquerque

This city really came into its own with the creation of Route 66, despite existing for more than 300 years beforehand. You’ll spend today at leisure exploring Albuquerque for yourself.

Day 10

Albuquerque – Flagstaff

Cruise through Gallup this morning to immerse yourself in the history of Route 66 on the main drag, with a chance to see the historic El Rancho Hotel that served as a base to various movie stars who came to the desert for filming. Later you’ll cross into Arizona to watch the sun cause the colours of the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest National Park to change. Visit the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook and see the Man Standing on the Corner in Winslow before making your way to Flagstaff for your overnight stay.

Day 11

Flagstaff – Cameron Trading Post – Grand Canyon National Park

Visit the traditional land of the Navajo people this morning with a stop at the Cameron Trading Post to browse the local handicrafts and foods. In the afternoon, journey along Desert View Drive to reach the iconic Grand Canyon where you’ll spend a night inside the park.

Day 12

Grand Canyon – Seligman – Kingman – Las Vegas

Take to the road again to pass through Seligman and Peach Springs, which served as the inspiration for the Pixar movie Cars. From here, drive through Hackberry which is a Route 66 ghost town and Kingman, a hotspot that kept the route and the old culture alive. Along the Mother Road you’ll spot perfectly preserved motels and dinners that hark back to the golden age of Route 66. Upon arrival into Las Vegas, you’ll have some free time to enjoy the glittering lights of this world-famous destination.

Overnight: Paris Las Vegas (Breakfast included)

Day 13

Las Vegas

Spend a full day in Vegas enjoying the many delights this city has to offer, from the casinos and shows to the shops and restaurants. Alternatively, you may prefer to take an optional trip to the Hoover Dam.

Day 14

Las Vegas – Hollywood – Los Angeles

Upon arrival into Los Angeles, head out to see the sights including Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and Santa Monica, where the road comes to an end at the great Pacific. In the evening, celebrate your trip with a delicious farewell dinner with your group.

Overnight: Millennium Biltmore

Day 15

Los Angeles

Bid farewell to Los Angeles and make your way to the airport for your departing flight.
