Overview

The Capital Region has both beautiful landscapes and fascinating history, and this itinerary takes in the best of Washington DC and the states of Maryland and Virginia. Begin in the wonderful capital city, exploring the inspiring monuments and museums, and enjoying the hip and historic neighbourhoods. Drive along the stunning Blue Ridge Parkway along the Skyline Drive and the Shenandoah National Park. Visit the charming towns of Charlotte and Richmond, then onto Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown - both wonderful places to experience immersing you in the 17th and 18th centuries. Then its time to hit the beach, with time to explore Chesapeake Bay and Virginia Beach.

Day 1 & 2 Washington, DC

Fly to Washington DC America's capital and collect your rental car.  This cosmopolitan city is packed with famous sights, free attractions and is home to some of the world’s best-known museums and galleries, including the Smithsonian Institution. Combine this with hip new restaurants and bars, stunning hotels, great nightlife, charming neighborhoods and terrific shopping.

Day 3 Charlottesville, VA

115 miles

Travel to the Blue Ridge Parkway, ascending well over 3,000 feet to the dominating views of the Skyline Drive through the Shenandoah National Park. Then to Charlottesville, once home to American statesman Thomas Jefferson. Today Charlottesville is a charming college town with many shops, restaurants and tea rooms.

Day 9 Annapolis, MD
