Day 1

San Francisco

Arrive into San Francisco and check-in at your hotel, then enjoy some time to explore the city at your own pace. This is a vibrant destination filled with galleries, museums, shops and a host of nearby attractions such as Pier 39. In the evening, gather at a local restaurant to meet your tour guide and group for a welcome reception.

Day 2

San Francisco

Embark on a tour of the city this morning that takes you from Fisherman’s Wharf to Union Square with a host of exciting locations in between. You’ll have the opportunity to visit the Cable Car Museum to learn about this iconic transport’s history before heading off on your own in the afternoon for a short period of sightseeing. Gather with your group again for a tour of the oldest Chinatown in the United States where you’ll have the chance to sample fortune cookies before dining on a delicious Chinese meal at a local restaurant.

Day 3

San Francisco – Sonoma – Napa Valley

Head for Napa Valley’s sun-blushed vineyards today as you leave the city of San Francisco for the next part of your journey. After checking in at the hotel, board the Napa Valley Wine Train’s carefully restored Pullman cars for a touch of old school rail glamour. You’ll travel through the beautiful scenery then indulge in a delicious lunch and wine tasting before enjoying some free time in Sonoma Square in the afternoon.

Day 4

Napa Valley – Sacramento – Lake Tahoe

Get up early this morning for an amazing and unforgettable hot air balloon ride over the Napa Valley (optional activity) before visiting the California State Railroad Museum. This interesting museum showcases 21 beautifully restored locomotives as well as countless exhibits illustrating how railroads have shaped people’s lives and the economy. Travel onwards to Sacramento River valley to the alpine beauty of Lake Tahoe where you may join an optional sunset dinner cruise on the lake if you wish to.

Overnight: Lake Tahoe Resorts Hotel at Heavenly Ski Resort (Breakfast included)

Day 5

Lake Tahoe – Yosemite National Park

Enter the breath-taking Yosemite National Park via the snow-covered Tioga Pass – a perfect introduction to this amazing location.* Descend from the Sierra Nevada Mountains into the Yosemite Valley, passing the Bridal Veil to reach your accommodation nestled within the park.

*If weather conditions prevent you from entering via the Tioga Pass, typically between mid-October to end of May, you will be able to enter the park via an alternative route.

Overnight: Yosemite Lodge at the Falls (Breakfast included)

Day 6

Yosemite National Park – Salinas Valley – Monterey

Journey west into Salinas Valley today to join an agricultural education tour, learning about the fruit and vegetable production here and the advanced farming techniques of the region with a local specialist. Afterwards, travel north to Monterey for a unique dining experience where you’ll be treated to a delicious farm-to-table feast prepared with local ingredients.

Overnight: The Portola Hotel and Spa at Monterey Bay (Breakfast and dinner included)

Day 7

Monterey – Big Sur – Carmel

Experience California’s gorgeous coastal scenery in full today with a trip along 17-Mile Drive, passing the Lone Cypress Tree and Pebble Beach Golf Link to reach Big Sur, then Carmel by the Sea. Take a wander along the water’s edge, go shopping or enjoy a cappuccino at one of the charming cafés.  From here, visit the hidden coves and sandy beaches of Big Sur where towering redwoods and dolphins can be found. Return to Monterey for a tour of Cannery Row and enjoy some free time to visit Fisherman’s Wharf. Alternatively, you can take part in an optional tour of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. This evening there will be a farewell dinner with your group and tour guide to celebrate your trip.

Day 8

Monterey – Roaring Camp – San Francisco

Take a trip back in time this morning to the era of lumberjacks and sawmills with a visit to a recreation of a 1880s logging camp, complete with general store and railroad depot – when Isaac Graham settled into the hills outside Santa Cruz in the 1830s, the Mexican authorities names his settlement ‘Roaring Camp’.  Take time to walk along the redwood trees at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park and admire one of California’s most renowned natural treasures. Your journey will end in San Francisco where you’ll be transferred to the airport for your departing flight.

Day 3

Napa Valley - Sacramento - Lake Tahoe

Choose an early start this morning to enjoy an optional hot air balloon ride over the lush Napa Valley. Enjoy a scenic drive through the area before boarding the Napa Valley Wine Train - relax in the beautifully restored Pullman cars, experiencing a taste of the golden age of rail travel. Indulge in a Regional lunch with wine tasting, and then travel through the fertile Sacramento River Valley to the alpine splendour of Lake Tahoe. Here you will admire the clear blue waters surrounded by vibrant green pine trees and rocky outcrops.

Day 4

Lake Tahoe

After a relaxing breakfast,step back in time as you ride along the Pony Express Trail. You will arrive at America's largest historic landmark Virginia City, where Mark Twain once roamed the streets and where you will learn all about the Gold Rush. Perhaps visit one of the mansions, museums or mines. This evening join an elegant sunset dinner cruise on the lake, complete with music.

Day 5

Lake Tahoe – Yosemite National Park
