Day 2

Phoenix/Scottsdale
Imagine a city built entirely on the principles of pampering, recreation and relaxation, where sunny days, near-perfect temperatures and splendid natural scenery reign supreme. It probably looks a lot like Scottsdale. With more than 200 golf courses in the area, ample spas and wellness resorts, plus cultural attractions like master architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter studio and numerous art galleries, the city is the perfect weekend antidote for life’s stresses. Tee off at the exclusive Troon North Golf Club where emerald-green fairways, grand vistas and award-winning design combine to produce an unforgettable game. Or rummage round the many shops and galleries in town that display and sell Native American arts and crafts. In the evening, unwind with an in-room massage or admire the stars from the steamy comfort of an outdoor hot tub. In Scottsdale, pleasure is par for the course.
Overnight: Clarion Hotel, Scottsdale

Day 3

Phoenix – Flagstaff (150 miles)
Astounding natural wonders, invigorating outdoor recreation and fascinating cultural attractions make Flagstaff the perfect getaway to rejuvenate the body and replenish the mind. Set at the base of the beautiful San Francisco Peaks, and surrounded by lush national forests, the city provides ample opportunity for fresh air fun. Spring, summer and autumn bring hikers, campers and mountain bikers, while winter draws skiers and ice skaters. But don’t let a focus on the "good old outdoors" fool you. Fostered by the local university, Flagstaff also has plenty of educational and cultural attractions. Be sure to see the award-winning permanent exhibit "Native Peoples of the Colorado Plateau" at the Museum of Northern Arizona. The Pioneer Museum offers a glimpse of what life was like for the early settlers of the region and includes a 1929 Baldwin locomotive in its collection. The city also has an arboretum and a planetarium. The entire area is a living anthropology and geology lesson, with ancient Native American ruins and stunning scenery at the Wupatki and Walnut Canyon National Monuments, just waiting to be explored.
Overnight: Fairfield Inn, Flagstaff

Day 4

Flagstaff - The Grand Canyon (80 miles)
Regardless of how you view the Grand Canyon -- braving the river rapids, hiking from rim to rim, riding a mule or stopping your car at lookouts -- you won’t leave without experiencing the wonder that this awe-inspiring gorge evokes in the millions of visitors who come to see it each year. The majestic canyon, an ever-changing display of colours, stretches nearly 280 miles from end to end, is an average of ten miles wide and descends 6000 feet at its deepest point. Whether watching the incredible sunset from Lipan Point, trekking down the Bright Angel Trail, the backpackers’ favourite, or picnicking at the popular Vista Encantadora viewing area, you’ll understand why President Theodore Roosevelt declared the canyon a National Monument in 1908, calling it "the one great site which every American...should see".

Day 5

The Grand Canyon
Take the scenic East or West Rim drive or descend into the "Inner Canyon" by foot or mule, or take a raft down the Colorado River, where thrilling rapids are interspersed with calmer waters. Hike down to the Havasupai Falls, where shimmering turquoise water cascades into a crystal pool below. Hiking trails abound and, for the fittest of hikers, the 21-mile rim-to-rim hike, while gruelling in parts, is a rewarding journey.

Day 6

The Grand Canyon - Las Vegas (280 miles)
Enjoy the desert scenery on this drive to the ‘Entertainment Capitol of the World’. Be sure to stop on route at Lake Mead National Recreation Area and Hoover Dam straddling the mighty Colorado River.

Day 7

Las Vegas
Casinos, naturally, continue to draw tourists to Las Vegas. From penny slots to high-stakes table games in private salons, you’ll find it here. But there’s much more to Las Vegas than gambling. A weekend itinerary highlights attractions of a different sort, from the choreographed fountains at the Bellagio to the Liberace Museum. Las Vegas is also surprisingly family-friendly. In an attempt to appeal to kids, the hotels have spent millions developing technically sophisticated indoor amusement rides such as the Race for Atlantis.
