Tour Information

Western Panoramas is a 10-day tour of the American west that starts in glittering Las Vegas for a night staying on one of the mega-hotels on the famous Strip. You’ll move onto the eerie landscape of Death Valley and the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains to stop in the beautiful resort of Mammoth Lakes. Then it’s off to Yosemite National Park to marvel at the huge outcrops of El Capitan and Half Dome, before you arrive at the Pacific for a two-night stay in San Francisco, one of the USA’s most interesting cities. Head down the Californian coast, passing through attractive towns like Carmel and Monterey and stopping overnight at Pismo Beach. Keep onwards through the rolling wine country of the Santa Ynez Valley to reach Santa Barbara on the way to Los Angeles, your final destination, where you’ll get to tour Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Sunset Strip.

Day 1

Arrival in Los Angeles.
Transfer from Los Angeles Airport to the Hacienda Hotel via shuttle bus and meet your tour escort. Free evening.
Overnight at Hacienda Hotel.

Day 2

Los Angeles - Las Vegas.
Coach tour commences. Meet your escort and depart at 8am for Las Vegas, the glittering entertainment capital of the world, for all the action at this non-stop city.
Overnight at Circus Circus hotel.

Day 3

Las Vegas - Death Valley - Mammoth Lakes.
After a night in fast-paced Vegas, the tour moves on to Death Valley, for a complete change of scene. Set between mountain ranges, this is the hottest spot on your journey, and there will be a stop at Zabriskie Point and Furnace Creek Ranch before continuing across the valley to ascend the Sierra Nevada Mountains and arrive at the mountain resort town of Mammoth Lakes.
Mammoth Mountain was formed more than 200,000 years ago after a series of violent volcanic eruptions, and the town itself emerged during the gold boom of the 19th century. These days it’s the skiing and beautiful mountain scenery that attracts visitors.

Day 4

Mammoth Lakes – Yosemite National Park.
A short drive over the Tioga Pass brings you across the Sierra Nevada to Yosemite National Park, with its spectacular waterfalls. It is also home to the glacial-shaped granite formations of Half Dome and El Capitan, rising from the valley floor.
Overnight at Four Points Sheraton Fresno.

Day 5

Yosemite – San Francisco.
An early departure to arrive in San Francisco via the Oakland Bay Bridge. Take a sightseeing tour around one of America’s favourite cities, then spend an afternoon exploring at leisure. There is also an opportunity to take a City by Night Tour to make the most of your visit.
Overnight at Holiday Inn Golden Gateway.

Day 6

San Francisco
Full-day to explore San Francisco on your own. Standing on a hilltop, watch the fog swirl in through the Golden Gate, take a cable car ride to Fisherman’s Wharf, climb aboard one of the city’s famous trams or stroll around Union Square for some shopping. Your escort will be on hand to help you plan your day, and there is also the option to take a day trip to Napa Valley, renowned for its vineyards and beautiful scenery.

Day 7

San Francisco – Monterey/Carmel – Pismo Beach/Solvang.
Morning drive to the Monterey Peninsula, known for its beaches and luxury homes, then stop off in picturesque Carmel-by-the-Sea. In Monterey you can visit Fisherman’s Wharf and take a stroll down Cannery Row, made famous by novelist John Steinbeck. Tour charming Carmel-by-the-Sea, with its quaint houses and upmarket galleries and shopping. Continue the drive south in the afternoon on ‘Camino Real’, where you will pass the Central California Coastal range and Paso Robles, home to wineries and real cowboys.

Day 8

Pismo Beach/Solvang – Santa Barbara – Los Angeles.
Continue south, heading through the Ynez Valley to reach Santa Barbara, where palm-lined ‘paseo’ walkways border white sandy beaches. Stop for lunch in Santa Barbara and see the area’s Spanish heritage and architecture. Arrive in Los Angeles in the afternoon and enjoy a sightseeing tour, which takes in Hollywood, parts of Beverly Hills and Sunset Strip, before ending at the airport for your return flight. You can choose to stay an extra night to continue exploring the City of Angels.

Day 9

Arrive back in the UK after your overnight flight.
