Check into your downtown hotel and pick up your travel documents before setting out to explore the city.
3 Nights New York

Day 2

New York
Spend the next two days discovering the wonders of the “city that never sleeps.” New York City has hundreds of world famous museums. Central Park offers a wide array of activities including sports, entertainment and a zoo.

Day 3

New York
No trip to New York City is complete without a visit to Radio City Music Hall, home to the high kicking Rockettes. The best view of the city can be seen from the Empire State Building. The Statue of Liberty is probably New York’s most popular symbol.

Day 4

To Albany, 155 mi/258 km
Travel up the Hudson Valley. Enjoy the sweep of the riverscape: it is the land 19th-century painters Thomas Cole and Frederick Church loved. America’s aristocracy built magnificent palaces up and down the river, using the best architects, landscape artists, and decorators. Stop at Bear Mountain State Park.... or tour Sunnyside, home of author Washington Irving, or Val-Kill, Eleanor Roosevelt’s home. Arrive in Albany for overnight.
1 Night Albany

Day 5

To Lake Placid, 140 mi/233 km
Head north today along the Lakes to Locks National Scenic Byway. Stop in Waterford at the Canal Visitor Center, the junction of the Champlain and Erie Canals. Most of the Canal locks have parks and interpretation about the Canal system. Be sure to stop at the Visitor Centers and park facilities. Just north of Fort Ann, head east to the museums in Granville to learn about the natural history of the Slate Valley. Continue north to Ticonderoga. All along the way, you will find Champlain Valley Heritage Network interpretive signs. See Fort Ticonderoga and the historic cable ferry across the lake, which operates during the summer. Then, head west to Lake Placid for overnight.
1 Night Lake Placid

Day 6

To 1,000 Islands (136 mi/228 km)
Today’s journey takes you through the Adirondack Mountains to beautiful Alexandria Bay and the 1,000 Islands Region, where you will join another National Scenic Byway, the SEAWAY TRAIL, a 454-mile scenic Byway paralleling the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario, Niagara River, and Lake Erie.
2 nights Alexandria Bay

Day 7

Be sure to take a 1,000 Islands cruise, and visit spectacular Boldt Castle. The native peoples called this region the “Garden of the Great Spirit.” Today, many people remark that this is truly one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Day 8

to Rochester, 93 mi/155 km
Begin with a visit to Fort Ontario, restored to its 1867-1872 appearance. Between 1944 and 1946 Fort Ontario was used as an emergency refugee center for victims of the Holocaust. Continue to Old Sodus Lighthouse, open to the public with a museum and small gift shop. Another lovely lighthouse can be seen as you enter Rochester. The original Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse was built here in 1822. Arrive in Rochester for a two-night stay.

Day 9

While here, be sure to visit the George Eastman House and the wonderfully eclectic Strong Museum.
