NCL to launch world’s first floating ice bars

Norwegian Cruise Lines is to introduce the world’s first floating ice bars, when it launches its new generation of luxury cruise liners.

The fleet of five ‘F3 Freestyle Cruising’ ships are set to enter service in 2010 with a host of new nightlife features, including the cruise industry’s first true ice bars.

They will form frozen chambers of iced vodka with ever-changing LED lighting designed to simulate the blues, greens and purples of the Northern Lights. Central giant ice cubes will dominate the bars and they will all also contain several life-size ice sculptures.

The bars will each have room for 25 guests who will be given gloves, hats and fur coats to keep them warm as they sip a cool cocktail in the Arctic atmosphere.

As well as the unique ice bars, nightlife innovations on the new F3 ships will include beach clubs at sea, all-day entertainment and nightclub complexes complete with four-lane bowling alleys, and adults-only aft pool decks.

“There is nothing ordinary about these ships. The F3s are unconventionally extraordinary,” said Colin Veitch, NCL’s president and CEO. “Every experience on board will be unique and like no other... What’s particularly unique about these spaces is they will have multiple uses – sunning, bowling, dining and, of course, party playgrounds. But this is just the beginning. We have a lot more to reveal in the upcoming months so stay tuned.”

American Sky offer a range of NCL cruises, taking in the delights of the Caribbean and Mexican Riviera, the Californian and New England coastlines, and up north to the wilds of Alaska.
