Tour Information

Starting with two nights in historic Boston, you’ll drive up the New England shoreline by deluxe motorcoach, arriving in mid-coast Maine for a night. Then it’s onto the scenic Kancamagus Highway to cut inland to New Hampshire’s White Mountains, down through the Lakes Region and to the Green Mountains and rural Vermont. Continue onto Shaker country and Massachusetts’ Berkshire Hills, and you’ll be treated to beautiful woodland Fall colours all along the way. Drive back to the coast to Newport Rhode Island before stopping in Cape Cod, with its quaint fishing villages, long beaches and sand dunes. You’ll have a chance to sail across to Martha’s Vineyard, one of the region’s most famous and fashionable resorts, and then conclude the tour back in Boston.

Day 1

UK – Boston
Your holiday starts with a flight from your chosen airport to Boston. A transfer by shuttle from the airport to your hotel will be provided today.
2 nights at the Sheraton Newton Hotel

Day 2

Boston
During this morning’s tour of one of America’s oldest cities, experience the contrast between the past and present, viewing sites ranging from the Old North Church to the modern John Hancock Tower. This afternoon you are free to explore the city on your own.

Day 3

To Mid Coast Maine
107 miles
This morning, depart at 09:00 to travel along the North Shore of Massachusetts and the southern coast of Maine. Further up the coast is the charming fishing port of Gloucester and the famous Fishermen’s Memorial statue commemorating “... they that go down in ships.” The artist colonies of Rockport, Massachusetts and Kennebunkport, Maine, bustle in the summer and provide the quiet inspiration of the sea all year long.
1 night in Mid coast Maine/Holiday Inn Express S. Portland

Day 4

To White Mountains
66 miles
Begin with a stop at Portland Head Light, a lovely example of a respected architectural form.
Next, we head inland into New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Travel along the scenic Kancamagus Highway, an old Indian Trail which cuts through the National Forest. Enjoy an included aerial tram ride to the summit of Cannon Mountain which offers splendid views of the area (weather permitting).
1 night White Mountains/Eagle Mountain House

Day 5

To Green Mountains
171 miles
Hundreds of ponds and more than 1,300 lakes adorn New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, location of the popular film “On Golden Pond.” Today you will pass two of these lakes, Winnipesaukee and Squam. Our journey continues to Vermont‘s Green Mountains. A photo stop will capture breathtaking views of Quechee Gorge. Continue to Woodstock for free time in this quaint Vermont town, complete with a wooden covered bridge.
1 night in Vermont/Inn of the Six Mountains

Day 6

To Connecticut River Valley 174 miles
This morning, head south through the pastoral beauty of Vermont. Stop in lovely Manchester Village, where designer outlets frame the village green and high street. Continuing south, we enter the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts for a visit to Hancock Shaker Village. The famous Shaker furniture and other artifacts on display here were intended to be a simple expression of their worship.
1 night Connecticut River Valley/Sturbridge Host Hotel

Day 7

To Newport and
Cape Cod 180 miles
Today we first travel to America’s smallest state, Rhode Island. Visit Newport, the sailing capital of New England. Here, at the turn of the last century, America’s most wealthy families lived in such opulence that they referred to their palatial seasonal homes as “cottages.” Travel along the beautiful Ten Mile Drive, lined with extravagant stately mansions. You will tour one of these “summer cottages”. Then it is on to Cape Cod. Awake to the fresh sea air in this world renowned resort. Today, choose an unescorted round trip ferry ride to the island of Martha’s Vineyard, with an included sightseeing tour.
This is New England’s largest, and perhaps most famous island.
OR
You may decide to join us on a tour of Cape Cod with a whale watch cruise (weather permitting).
Overnight 2 nights Cape Cod /Four Points Sheraton Hyannis

Day 8

This day’s activities are combined with Day 7 - see above for details.

Day 9

Cape Cod to Boston – to UK.
75 miles
En route to Boston, you will tour through Sandwich, the Cape’s oldest town. Next, Plimoth Plantation invites you to witness life as it was in this settlement in 1627 and to interact with the “pilgrims” as they go about their daily life. Then, regretfully, it is time to return to Boston airport for your return flight to the UK.
